Stress Fractures, it is an overuse injury.

  • Stress Fracture is an overuse injury.
  • Occurs when muscles become fatigued and are unable to absorb added shock.
  • Eventually, the fatigued muscle transfers the overload of stressto the bone causing a tiny crack called a stress fracture.
  • Stress fractures are incomplete cracks in bone caused by overuse.

Treatment: With complete rest, most stress fractures heal quickly. Slowly increasing training mileage and energyabsorbing materials in athletic shoes help prevent the condition.

Note: Stress fractures left untreated may become complete fractures, which require casting and immobilization. Orthotics that assist the foot’s shock-absorbing ability can also be prescribed.
